Marian Prayers

Regina caeli (Queen of Heaven)

Queen of Heaven

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.
V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia.
R. Pray for us to God, alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Regina caeli

V. Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia.
R. Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia.
V. Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia.
R. Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

V. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia.
R. Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia.

Oremus. Amen.

Alma Redemptoris Mater (Loving Mother of the Redeemer)

Alma Redemptoris Mater,
quae pervia caeli porta manes,
et stella maris, succurre cadenti,
surgere qui curat, populo:
tu quae genuisti, natura mirante,
tuum sanctum Genitorem,
Virgo prius ac posterius,
Gabrielis ab ore sumens illud Ave,
peccatorum miserere.

Loving Mother of the Redeemer,
who remains the open gate of heaven
and star of the sea,
help your fallen people
who strive to rise again.
You who gave birth, to the wonder of nature,
to your own holy Creator,
Virgin before and after,
receiving that “Ave” from the mouth of Gabriel,
have mercy on us sinners.

Ave Regina Caelorum (Hail, Queen of Heaven)

Ave, Regina caelorum,
ave, Domina angelorum:
salve, radix, salve, porta,
ex qua mundo lux est orta.
Gaude, Virgo gloriosa,
super omnes speciosa;
vale, o valde decora,
et pro nobis Christum exora.

Hail, Queen of Heaven,
hail, Lady of the Angels.
Hail, root, hail, gate
from whom the Light of the world was born.
Rejoice, glorious Virgin,
most beautiful above all.
Farewell, O most lovely one,
and pray for us to Christ.

Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen)

 Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us.
And after this exile, show unto us
the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Memorare

Memorare, O piissima Virgo Maria,
non esse auditum a saeculo,
quemquam ad tua currentem praesidia,
tua implorantem auxilia,
tua petentem suffragia, esse derelictum.
Ego tali animatus confidentia,
ad te, Virgo virginum, Mater, curro;
ad te venio, coram te gemens peccator assisto.
Noli, Mater Verbi, verba mea despicere,
sed audi propitia et exaudi. Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help,
or sought your intercession
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Magnificat

Magnificat anima mea Dominum,
et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo,
quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae.
Ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes,
quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericordia eius a progenie in progenies
timentibus eum.

Fecit potentiam in brachio suo,
dispersit superbos mente cordis sui;
deposuit potentes de sede
et exaltavit humiles.
Esurientes implevit bonis
et divites dimisit inanes.

Suscepit Israel puerum suum,
recordatus misericordiae suae,
sicut locutus est ad patres nostros,
Abraham et semini eius in saecula. Amen.

My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid.
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed,
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name,
and his mercy is from generation to generation
to those who fear him.

He has shown strength with his arm,
he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts;
he has put down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever. Amen.
