Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us
Lectio Divina is an ancient way of praying with Scripture that helps you move from simply reading God’s Word to actually resting in His presence. It’s simple, but deeply transformative when practiced slowly and with openness.
There are 4 Steps: Lectio, Meditatio, Oratio, Contemplatio
Begin by slowly reading a short passage of Scripture. Don’t rush. Read it a few times and notice a word or phrase that stands out. This is not about studying, but about listening for what God is highlighting for you today.
Take that word or phrase and gently reflect on it. Ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me through this?” Let it speak to your life, your thoughts, and your current circumstances. This is where Scripture begins to feel personal and alive.
Now respond to God in prayer. Speak honestly. This can be gratitude, repentance, прось, or simply opening your heart. The goal is conversation, not performance. You are responding to a God who is speaking to you.
Finally, rest in God’s presence. No pressure to think or speak. Simply be with Him. This is a quiet space of love and trust, where words fade and communion deepens.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
“And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” (John 1:14)
Slowly read the passage once. Then read it again, even a third time if needed.
As you read, gently notice what stands out. Maybe it is “the Word,” “became flesh,” or “dwelt among us.”
Stay with the word or phrase that draws your attention. Trust that the Holy Spirit often speaks through gentle repetition and simplicity.
Take the word or phrase that stayed with you and reflect on it.
For example, if “the Word became flesh” stands out, you might ask:
Let the passage connect with your real life, your struggles, your hopes, and your relationships. This is where Scripture becomes personal.
Now speak to God honestly and simply.
You might pray:
“Lord Jesus, I am amazed that You became flesh for me. Help me to believe You are truly present in my life. Draw me closer to You when I feel distant or distracted.”
There is no need for perfect words. Speak from the heart.
Now rest in God’s presence.
You do not need to think or analyze. Just be with Him.
Imagine Christ, the Word made flesh, gently present with you. Let silence become prayer. If distractions come, gently return to a sense of His presence.
This is not about achieving anything. It is about receiving love.
